Site Index Checker

A site index checker estimates how much of your website Google has indexed. SearchOptimo reads your sitemap, checks 10 random pages live against Google, and projects the result across your whole site. Free, no signup, and it works on any domain.

Free, no signup. We read your sitemap, then check 10 random pages against Google.

How the site index check works

1. We find your sitemap

Enter your domain. We read robots.txt and the usual locations, follow any index to its child files, and count the pages listed.

2. We check a random sample live

Ten pages are picked at random, not the first ten, so your homepage and best pages do not flatter the result. Each is checked against Google’s live results.

3. You get an estimate

We project the sample across your whole sitemap and show a range, because ten pages can only tell you so much.

The result is an estimate, not a count. Only pages listed in your sitemap are sampled, and a public Google check can miss a page that is indexed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check how many pages of my site are indexed?
Enter your domain in the tool above. It finds your sitemap, counts the URLs in it, picks 10 of them at random and checks each one against Google's live results. You get a count of how many of the 10 are indexed and an estimated range for the whole site. If you own the site, Search Console's Page indexing report gives Google's own exact count, and it is the better source for your own property. This tool is for the quick version, and for sites you cannot open in Search Console.
How does the site index checker estimate my indexed pages?
It treats the 10 sampled pages as a random draw from your sitemap. If 7 of 10 are indexed, that suggests a majority of your sitemap is indexed, and we show a 95 percent range around that figure rather than a single number. With only 10 pages the range is wide: 7 of 10 is consistent with a true share anywhere from roughly 40 to 90 percent. Check again for another random sample, or monitor more URLs to narrow it.
Why does this estimate differ from Search Console?
Three reasons. Search Console counts every page Google has indexed, including ones that are not in your sitemap, while this tool only samples pages your sitemap lists. Search Console reads Google's own record, while this tool checks Google's public search results, which can miss a page that is indexed. And ours is a sample of 10, so it carries sampling error that a full count does not. Treat the tool as a fast estimate and Search Console as the authoritative number for sites you own.
Why not just use a site: search to count my indexed pages?
Because the number Google shows next to a site: search is a rough approximation, not a count, and Google says the operator does not necessarily return every indexed URL. It can swing from one search to the next. Checking a random sample of real URLs against the index gives you a figure you can reason about, with a stated margin of error, instead of an unexplained total.
What should I do if many of the sampled pages are not indexed?
First confirm the pages load and are not blocked: a 404, a redirect, a noindex tag, a robots.txt block or a canonical pointing elsewhere will all keep a page out. If they are clean, the usual causes are thin or duplicate content and weak internal links. Then re-check over time, because newly published pages often take days or weeks to appear. SearchOptimo's free plan re-checks up to 50 URLs weekly and emails you when one drops out.

Want to check a specific list of pages instead? Use the Bulk Index Checker. For a single page, use the Google Index Checker. If we could not find your sitemap, the Sitemap Checker can test it from its full URL.

Estimate once. Then keep watching.

A sample tells you where you stand today. SearchOptimo re-checks your URLs on a schedule and alerts you when a page drops out of the index. Free plan: 50 URLs checked weekly, no credit card.
